Looking for an inexpensive flash?

For those of you that are looking for a flash that is affordable. One solution is purchasing a Vivitar 285 HV flash. The flash is pretty powerful and has 4 different power settings on the flash unit. It is also suitable to all camera formats, so it doesn't matter if you have Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Sony, or Olympus. So it's friendly to all!

Currently on B&H Photo Video it costs $89.95, and $87.95 on Amazon. Both websites include free shipping for this product.

The flash could be improved if it had ETTL, a swivel head, and a metal instead of a plastic hot shoe. Regardless, it is a great flash to start off with if you cannot afford dedicated flash units, Alien Bees, etc.

Now go out there, buy a flash, and experiment with light! That is what photography is all about

An even better option may be the LumoPro flashes available through Midwest Photo Exchange (mpex.com)

Just be sure to put something between your flash and your camera or risk frying the circuitry, particularly with the old Vivitars.
